Giving Back

We believe in making our community a better place by helping others.

As part of SBLR’s long term commitment to helping others, we are proud to support numerous charitable organizations that have impacted the lives of our families and friends.

Our dedicated Committee meets throughout the year to plan events. Over the last 14 years, we have raised over $150,000 through bike races, bake sales, charity auctions and deluxe poker nights – yes, even accountants know how to have fun!

Charities We Have Supported

Project ChildCare Foundation
(2023-2024)

PCF is a registered Canadian local charity established in 2006, working to improve the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable children around the world. We deeply believe that as Canadians and global citizens, we can, and we must continue to do more to help children who live in crisis regions and have suffered impoverishment, abandonment, neglect and unthinkable abuse. PCF is more than a family foundation to me. It is a lifelong commitment of service not only to those less fortunate but as a testament to our belief in humanity’s ability to care for others to make a difference by helping one child, one life at a time.

Dream and Wishes
(2017, 2018, 2022)

Dreams and Wishes Children's Charity is a small, volunteer run charity based in Durham Region and due to their size, every single donation matters. Their goal is to provide a sense of normalcy for children in shelters by hosting events through the year. My Stepmom was involved with the charity for over five years, and I've volunteered for a handful of their events. It's hard to miss the joy and excitement of the kids that attend.

Hearth Place
(2019, 2020)

Hearth Place supports the emotional needs of families within the Durham Community and beyond. Since 1997, Hearth Place welcomes cancer patients and their families to come and share their experiences, find resources, and discover new ways to care for themselves and each other. I have seen it firsthand through a close friend of mine, the support they provided her made a very positive impact in her life.

Ride to Conquer Cancer
(2013 – 2023)

Between 2013 and 2021 I have participated in the Ride to Conquer Cancer raising approx. $8,000 per year. The RTCC raises as much as $20 million per year. I started this charitable ride after having surgery for cancer. Both myself and my wife are cancer survivors. The work being done at The Princess Margaret aims to detect cancer earlier, find new and less invasive treatments, and improve the overall quality of life for anyone living with cancer. We want to beat cancer in our lifetime.
